About
Hi, I am Ian, author of this blog. This blog is dedicated to Chinese Opera, an art that I like most and had spent most of the time learning it, finding out more about it and appreciating.
Chinese Opera is an art originating from China and had been around for hundreds of years. There are at least 365 types of Chinese Opera in China but unfortunately with the advent of modern lifestyle and the many distractions and choices of entertainment that surround us nowadays, the survival of Chinese Opera is being threatened. Some of the Opera types are facing extinction due to lack of support.
There are many websites out there that also touch on Chinese Opera but what I want to do here is not to duplicate them but to complement and give a deeper insight into the art of Chinese Opera.
Chinese Opera is an artform that is so intrigue that much of it is hard to be expressed in words but better appreciated if you were to watch a live performance. However, fear not that you are not able to understand the words that the artistes are saing or singing, Chinese Opera follows a set of rules and when you understand these rules and principles you will be able to appreciate this beautiful artform.
Many would have thought that Chinese Opera, having been around for so long, is an ancient art and only people who are more senior in age is able to appreciate it (at least this is what many youngers in asia would likely think so). This kind of thinking is not absolutely true, on the contrary, Chinese Opera do also adapt to the changing appreciation standards of the generations and also uses modern technology and directing methods to help enhance a performance.
In this blog I will share with you the basic aspect of Chinese Opera and what make it so different from other artforms through the appreciation of the props, costumes and assessories used by the artistes. You are also able to contact me or my associates if you are interested in buying a costume, props and assessories for your personal use or performance use.
